A few years ago, my son and I started building a spreadsheet. That's really how this story starts.
I was coaching track and field and cross country, and like every coach I knew, I was drowning in the admin side of it. Spreadsheets for rosters. Another spreadsheet for entries. Printed heat sheets I'd lose before the first race. Emails back and forth with parents trying to figure out who was running what event. Hours of work every single week that had nothing to do with actually coaching athletes.
Cooper, my son, saw me grinding through it one night and asked what I was doing. I explained it. He said, "Why doesn't an app just do that?"
I didn't have a good answer.
So we started building one.
What began as a side project turned into something we genuinely couldn't stop thinking about. For seven months, we'd sit at the kitchen table after dinner and talk through how a coach actually thinks about a meet. How you balance an athlete's event load. How you manage a roster of 80 kids with three assistants and zero budget for software that costs $500 a year.
We built Split Track for that coach. For me, honestly. But also for every high school track and cross country coach who's ever stayed up until midnight doing data entry when they'd rather be watching film or writing a workout.
What Split Track Does
Split Track is team management software built specifically for track and field and cross country coaches. Not adapted from a generic sports platform. Not bolted onto something designed for football or soccer. Built from scratch for the way running programs actually work, across both seasons.
- Manage your full roster and event assignments in one place
- Build meet and practice entries without the spreadsheet juggling
- Track athlete performance over time with precise results and splits that everyone can see in real-time
- Keep parents and athletes informed without the back-and-forth
It's everything you're already doing, just without the chaos.
Why We're Excited to Share It
We've been testing Split Track with a small group of coaches, and watching them use it has been genuinely one of the most rewarding things I've done in this sport. Coaches who've been duct-taping spreadsheets together for fifteen years lighting up when they realize how much time they're getting back.
That's what this is about. More time for the athletes. More time for coaching. Less time staring at a screen doing work that software should handle.
Today we're opening Split Track up to the broader running community. If you're a high school track and field or cross country coach, we built this for you. We'd love for you to try it.

This has been a labor of love. Seven months of late nights, kitchen table conversations, and a lot of trial and error. Cooper and I are proud of it. And we're just getting started.
Welcome to Split Track.
